The Tennant Creek Women’s Refuge ( TCWR) provides an 8 bed, secure crisis accommodation service for women and their children who are victims of or at risk of Domestic or Family Violence.
There are staff members on site 24 hours a day every day of the Year – who are available to review and accept referrals and provide direct support to clients.
Clients may self -refer by phone or attend the Refuge.
The accommodation is situated on the Southern Side of Tennant Creek .
It is a safe and secure space for women and children, with a number of security measures in place to ensure their safety and the safety of the staff.
Whilst being accommodated, women and children are provided with case management, safety planning, counselling, emergency relief and referral to other Services.
The primary focus of our support is to maximise women and children’s safety. We do this by developing an individualised safety plan .
As TCWR can only provide short term accommodation, our focus is to provide a safe space and respite before women decide what their next step will be.
Due to the ongoing shortage of affordable housing , other Accommodation Options – and the long wait ( up to 10 years) for Public Housing in Tennant Creek – an exit plan will focus on immediate safety of women and children rather than securing long term accommodation.
Outreach Workers can also offer ongoing support for women and children returning to home or Community.
